It’s Clown Week with Gandeys Circus!

The red noses are polished, the makeup is on, and the laughter is ready to erupt — it’s Clown Week! Every year, from August 1st to August 7th, we celebrate the timeless joy, creativity, and mischief that clowns bring into our lives. The UK’s most iconic circus, Gandeys Circus,  keeping the tradition of clowning alive and thriving.

What is Clown Week?

First officially recognized in the U.S. in 1971, Clown Week has become an international celebration of all things clown: from classic slapstick to modern theatrical comedy. It’s a time to honour the performers who devote their lives to one noble goal — making people laugh.

Clowning is an art form that combines physical theatre, mime, improvisation, storytelling, costume design, and much more.

Enter the Ring: Gandeys Circus

Gandeys is known not just for its breathtaking acrobatics, thrilling motorbike stunts, and jaw-dropping aerial acts, but also for its world-class clowns, who have kept the tradition of comedy alive through every twist and turn of circus history. Gandeys clowns bring a unique blend of old-school hilarity and fresh, modern fun to the big top.

Whether it’s a custard pie to the face, a giant inflatable hammer, or just a perfectly timed fall, Gandeys clowns are experts in the universal language of laughter.

Why Clowns Matter

In a world that’s fast, loud, and often overwhelming, clowns remind us to slow down and smile. They teach resilience through humour, break dow

n barriers with silliness, and connect with us on an emotional level that’s both deep and disarming.

How to Celebrate Clown Week
