Electrical Technician

Reporting to the Technical Manager and working under the supervision of the Site Manager, the technicians are vital members of the team. In addition to working on regular performances, the technician is also integrally involved in the Set up & Tear Down of the Big Top and technical equipment. To adhere at all times to health and safety, licencing regulations.
This job requires applicant to tour with the production in the UK and to live in mobile accommodation, which will be supplied by the company. Applicant must be willing to work evenings and weekends, while on tour.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that power distribution including generators, site lighting and PA is set up properly and consistent with the show concept.
  • Run all distribution systems and conduct maintenance during set –up, tear-down and the shows run at each venue.
  • Safely operate generators, electrical equipment according to infrastructure installation and operating procedures.
  • With the Technical Manager / Site Manager, help to maintain and repair generators and electrical equipment.
  • Assist technicians in setting up lighting and sound equipment properly.
  • To carry out maintenance, repair and modifications of power distribution, lighting, and sound equipment.
  • To oversee trailing of crew when assisting with technical equipment.
  • To update power distribution archives.
  • Ensure the safety and security of power distribution, generators, and site lighting installations at all times.
  • Adhere to standards and regulations in regard to the safety of power distribution, lighting and sound equipment, and comply with safe working methods.
  • Follow and support the equipment and inventory procedures and requirements.
  • Maintain inventory and equipment data.
  • Inform Head office and Site Manager of any changes made to generators or electrical equipment for the site.

  • Be on call for emergencies.
  • Attend all training sessions

Physical Demands

This work involves standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, stooping and other physical activities consistent with setting up technical equipment. Work may include lifting, carrying or moving objects and equipment weighing over 100 pounds.

Personal Specification

  • College diploma (or equivalent) in live entertainment or electrical apprenticeship (or equivalent work experience)
  • A minimum of three years’ experience as an Electrical technician / installer.
  • Good understanding of electricity and electrical safety in the entertainment sector.
  • Experience with maintenance and repair generators and site distribution.
  • Good general understanding of all technical aspects of a show.
  • Personnel management experience.
  • Flexibility, autonomy, team player.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to handle contingencies and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to work high above the ground (climbing abilities essential)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft software for Windows.
  • Certification in electricity is desired.
  • Experience with control systems and generators.
