Whats On London

Theatre and Concerts

West End Theatre

London’s West End is one of the world’s best-known theatre districts. Most of the big theatres sit between Covent Garden, Leicester Square and Shaftesbury Avenue. From late November many add family shows and pantomimes, which sell out fast for the school holidays. Jesus Christ Superstar is a new arrival in London theatres.

Arenas and Gigs

The O2 in Greenwich holds up to 20,000 people, and OVO Arena Wembley around 12,500. For smaller gigs and live music events, try Camden, Shoreditch or Brixton.

Art, Exhibitions and Heritage

Many London museums are free to enter for their permanent collections, so you can discover the city’s art, culture and heritage without a ticket. Special exhibitions usually charge.

British Museum

In Bloomsbury, for world history, ancient civilisations and some of the city’s most visited exhibitions.

South Kensington Museums

The Natural History Museum and the Science Museum sit side by side, with dinosaurs and hands-on galleries where kids learn by doing.

Tate Modern and the Serpentine

Tate Modern’s modern art collection on Bankside is free for everyone, and the Serpentine galleries in Kensington Gardens show free contemporary art exhibitions.

London Transport Museum

In Covent Garden, children aged 17 and under go free with a timed ticket. The collection shows how buses and trains shaped city life in London.

Films at BFI Southbank

BFI Southbank, under Waterloo Bridge, is the British Film Institute’s home cinema. Its four screens show classic films, director seasons, previews and new films, which makes it a good way to experience London’s film culture on a rainy Sunday.

Whats On London

Family Activities in London

For family activities, group things by area so you can discover more and travel less. South Kensington puts three big museums within a short walk, with Hyde Park close by. On the South Bank, explore the riverside walk and pair the London Eye with the winter market – The London Eye is 135 metres high, offering city views. A Winter Wonderland visit with a circus show is a full family experience and fills an afternoon on its own.

Christmas Events in London

The city starts to celebrate in November, and these are the London events most families look for.

  • Hyde Park Winter Wonderland: every day from 19 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, apart from Christmas Day, with an ice rink, the Magical Ice Kingdom, rides, bars and Christmas markets.
  • Southbank Centre Winter Market: 2 November 2026 to 4 January 2027 on the Queen’s Walk, daily from 11am to 10pm except 25 and 31 December.

Soho and Covent Garden have restaurants at every price before a show, and Borough Market, near London Bridge, is open Tuesday to Sunday.
